Senior Psychiatrist – Range C (Unclassified position)

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Psychiatrist for Northern Nevada Child and Adolescent Services (NNCAS). This is an unclassified position within Nevada State Government and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Administrator of the Division of Child and Family Services.
The Position: This position serves as the Medical Director for our outpatient and residential programs and, depending upon the location of the most qualified applicant, will be assigned to Las Vegas or Reno, Nevada. The outpatient programs provide a range of mental and behavioral health services to children and adolescents (age birth through 17) in the community; including assessment, individual and family counseling, psychiatric referral and consultation, psychological assessments; and community and home-based services. Residential programs provide for youth 6 through 17 years with a total of 41 beds. The program utilizes a Psycho- Educational Model, Trauma Informed Care Model, Recovery Model, and Positive Behavior Support Planning providing psychosocial rehabilitation services.
This position is responsible to provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, review of medical evaluations and symptoms, ongoing assessment, medication monitoring and 24 hour – 7 day a week emergency consultation. The Psychiatrist prescribes medications, tracks prescribed medication and lab work for each client, and educates clients and families regarding the benefits and side effects of medication. This position also provides referral to other treatment services such as neurological or psychological services. The Senior Psychiatrist is responsible to supervise the University of Nevada Fellowship Interns and a part-time psychiatric nurse position. This position is also responsible to order any emergency procedures (seclusion/restraint) as well as any denial of client rights. This position may be filled on a permanent or part-time basis.
Minimum Qualifications: Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 433.267 requires that Psychiatrists employed by the Division be certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology within five years from the date of employment. Possession of a license to practice medicine in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment. Fingerprinting and a background investigation through the FBI and NHP are required. The employee is responsible for all associated fees.
Salary and Benefits: Full time annual compensation $170,098 or $84.72 hourly rate (employee/employer retirement plan). Excellent benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, Public Employees retirement plan, three weeks paid vacation, three weeks sick leave and paid holidays.
