Recruiting for: Future full-time and part-time vacancies located at the Department of Corrections, Administrative Division, Medical Section in the following areas; Carson City, Ely, Indian Springs, North Las Vegas and Lovelock, Nevada. Ely is a maximum security prison.

Applications from Mid-level Medical Practitioners are also encouraged.
Sr. Physician Position: Under administrative direction, performs professional medical duties involving general examination, diagnosis, care and treatment; supervises the medical services; and performs related work as required. Prescribe medications by using standard pharmacological procedures in order to facilitate treatment and care of individual clients. Works with Nursing Director to supervise nursing staff engaged in the care of clients. Must be or become knowledgeable of Nevada Revised Statutes applicable to the practice of medicine in Nevada State facilities and programs.

Mid Level Medical Practitioner Position: Mid level practitioners may be either advanced practitioners of Nursing or Physician Assistants who provide medical care in psychiatric or correctional settings. Physician’s Assistants provide medical care in accordance with approved medical protocols as allowed under the Supervising Physician’s scope of practice and Nevada Revised Statutes. Advanced Practitioners of Nursing (APN) work within the scope of practice of an APN and practice protocols as agreed upon by the collaborating physician and the APN, as set forth in the Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 632 of the Nevada Revised Statutes and Administrative Code.

Sr. Physician Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine or approved by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners or Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine, with one year of internship in an approved hospital and three years of experience in the practice of medicine or equivalent combination of both; OR completion of an appropriate residency approved by the American Medical Association OR an equivalent combination substituting each year of resident training for a year of medical practice; OR board eligibility in a medical specialty; OR board certification in a medical specialty.

Mid Level Medical Practitioner Requirements: Licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners or certification by the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine as a Physician Assistant; OR certification of recognition as an Advanced Practitioner of Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Nurse Practitioner issued by the State Board of Nursing.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in these classes have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these classes must first submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. 2) requires fingerprinting and a background investigation through the FBI and NCIC. 3) A valid license in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Salary and Benefits:

Sr. Physician: (Unclassified position) Annual salary up to $155,624 (Employee/Employer Paid Retirement

Mid Level Medical Practitioner: Salary range $64,707.12 to $97,593.12 (Employee/Employer Paid Retirement).

Employee benefits included paid annual, paid sick leave, health insurance, and the state retirement plan. Other optional benefits are available including a deferred compensation program.
