Position Description

The Associate General Counsel will assist the General Counsel and members of NVCI management by providing legal advice and counsel (including conducting or overseeing legal research, identifying new or emerging areas of risk, etc.), on a range of topics within general practice areas with an emphasis on clinical and laboratory research. Responsible for handling complex legal matters or projects including contract negotiation, drafting, and day to day legal counseling with little guidance or direction. Serves as knowledge resource and provides training to management, staff and legal interns as appropriate. Assist Government Affairs department in interpretation and implementation of new and proposed laws that may impact NVCI business. Achieves NVCI mission through delivery of practical legal advice, representation and legal oversight that supports the achievement of core academic and administrative objectives. Additional responsibilities include internal client counseling, policy development, and performance of due diligence in support of business transactions. Will perform all duties in accordance with NVCI's behavioral standards, mission, vision and values of Discovery, Excellence, Collaboration, Compassion, Integrity, and Stewardship.

Position Requirements

Juris Doctorate and the ability to practice law in Nevada through either bar membership or bar authorization for multi-jurisdictional practice required. Life sciences related degree preferred. Minimum of three to five years post-law school experience required. In-house experience in a nonprofit life sciences or academic research organization is preferred. Experience providing legal advice for a wide range of research-oriented regulatory matters, including clinical trials, is required. Attention to detail as well as a high level of communication, organizational and personnel management skills is required for this position. Qualified candidates must be well organized and detail-oriented. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also a must. The ability to deal with new problems, regulatory and operational, with an objective perspective is required.
